Girona are showing no sign of slowing down on their contention for the 2023/24 La Liga title race.

After being held away from home in their last La Liga fixture against bottom-placed Almeria, the Girona-based side needed to get back to gears and they did it emphatically, pulling a solid performance to thrash struggling Sevilla at the Estadio Municipal de Montilivi.
Romero raced the Black and Reds into the lead just 10 minutes into the game. Going down by a lone goal, Sevilla committed more bodies forward attempting to mount a response but left gaping loopholes at the back which was effectively exploited by the hosts.
Three minutes after the opening goal, Duvbyk doubled the lead for the home side. Conceding two goals in a flash, Sevilla were in disarray. They struggled to mount an offensive and were punished again for a rickety defense.
Duvbyk's prolific finishing was far too superior for Sevilla's backline. The Ukrainian quickly harvested the goals for the hosts, scoring two minutes later after his first strike to bag his brace and race the home side into a 3-0 lead. Before the half-hour, the 26-year-old Ukrainian forward scored the quickest La Liga hat-trick, firing in his third goal and Girona's fourth in the 19th minute to make it 4-0.
It was an absolute stunner as the La Liga title hopefuls put to rout the six-time and record Europa League winners with four goals hurled in before 20 minutes.
In the second half, Sevilla got their house in order but it was pretty late. Tsygankov pulled one back for the away side to reduce the arrears in the 56th minute but Girona still extended their lead by 4 goals late in the game.
Stuani completed the rout with an 89th-minute strike as Michel Sanchez bagged another statement La Liga victory to take Girona back to the La Liga top with 51 points.
