A group of women known as the Concerned Grassroots Women staged a protest in Abuja on behalf of the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Dr. Beta Edu.
Recall that Dr. Edu was arrested by the EFCC for approval of the transfer of N585M into a personal account. The female Minister allegedly signed a memo instructing the Accountant General Oluwatoyin Madein, to transfer the said amount into the bank account of a certain Oniyelu Bridget as a financial grant for four states.
Though Oluwatoyin Madein affirmed that Dr. Edu sent a memo to carry out the transaction, she didn't excuse the Minister's illegal act. Madein also confirmed that she didn't carry out the instructions of the Minister.
Meanwhile, Dr. Edu said she didn't carry out any plan to embezzle public funds and it was just a mere allegation to tarnish her image.
In a video making the rounds online, the women gathered at a conference organized in honor of the female minister which was tagged "Bring Back Beta Edu", asking the FG to give the 37-year-old Minister a second chance. The women sang "On your mandate, we shall stand" as they raised up their placards in unison.
This sparked numerous reactions online as netizens were shocked to see Nigerians gather in favor of the woman who allegedly converted public funds into personal use.
