Glo subscribers to be barred from calling MTN lines due to non-settlement of interconnect charges
It has come to the notice of the public that Glo subscribers are likely to be barred from making calls to MTN lines soon, due to some non-settlement of interconnect charges. This information was disclosed by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on Monday via a statement signed by Reuben Muoka, the Director of Public Affairs Department.
The statement disclosed that NCC has partially approved the disconnection of Globacom from MTN Nigeria Communications Plc.
Also, "Globacom was notified of the application made by MTN and was given the opportunity to comment and state its case." However, after closer scrutiny of Globacom's reason for not paying their debt owed to MTN, NCC concluded that Globacom had no tangible reason for non-payment of the interconnect charges.
NCC stated that Globacom has been given a grace of 10 days to fulfill its obligations to MTN. Refusal to comply would result in disconnecting Globacom subscribers from making calls to MTN lines but will be able to receive calls. This shows a partial disconnection which would still allow inbound calls to the Globacom network.
