Governor Charles Soludo has written to president Muhammadu Buhari to seek for the release of Nnamdi Kanu before the end of his tenure.

He wrote this ahead of the inauguration of the President-elect on the 29th of May which is next Monday.

Governor Soludo is the governor of Anambra State. He is a Nigerian politician who has been serving as the governor of Anambra State since 2022.

He appealed to the President before he leaves office next week to release Nnamdi Kanu who is the leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Reports say this is not the first time he would be pleading for Mr Kanu's release.

He made the appeal in April but the letter was just obtained by newsmen recently.

Mr Nnamdi was first arrested in 2015 over terrorism charges and in 2017, he was granted bail. He was arrested again 4 years after running away from Nigeria. This was in 2021 in Kenya.

Governor Soludo said that the detention of Mr Nnamdi is affecting people in the South-east of Nigeria who are forced to sit at home in fear on Mondays.

He said his detention is a cause of insecurity in the South-east.

He also pleaded saying Mr Nnamdi was facing serious health challenges and medical care isn't available in the facility where Mr Nnamdi is being kept.

He told the president to show mercy and release Nnamdi Kanu before his handover on the 29th May, 2023
