Hakan Calhanoglu has made an estimable statement with regards to where he ranks himself amongst the best playmakers in the world presently.

Calhanoglu, who joined Inter Milan on July 1, 2021, on a free transfer after exiting AC Milan, is arguably one of the best footballers in his position currently, due to his outstanding abilities in the middle of the park.

Hakan Calhanoglu is renowned and respected as a free-kick specialist, with his ability to score spectacular efforts from different angles and ranges.

The 30-year-old is also amongst the illustrious list of players, who were fortunate to play for both AC Milan and Inter Milan, with the Turkish man arguably considered to be a legend of both clubs.

Calhanoglu left Bayer Leverkusen on July 3, 2017, to join the Rossoneri and was sublime at the club, scoring 32 goals and providing 48 assists in 172 appearances.

Subsequently, Hakan Calhanoglu departed the San Siro for neighbors and city rivals Inter Milan, where he has enjoyed relative success.

The former Hamburger SV man has made 125 appearances for Inter Milan, scoring 23 goals and providing 24 assists in all competitions.

In his stay at the Giuseppe Meazza stadium, Calhanoglu has won 2 Coppa Italia titles, 3 Supercoppa Italiana and he was amongst the players that guided the Nerazzurri to the UEFA Champions League final last season.

Speaking on where he ranks himself amongst the elite midfielders currently, Calhanoglu boasted: “I’m the best playmaker right now. After me Rodri, then Toni Kroos, Kimmich, and Enzo Fernandez.”

Hakan Calhanoglu isn't the fastest of players, but his dribbling, technique, passing, crossing, vision, breathtaking eye for goal, and striking abilities have been tagged as his strengths.

The Turkish midfielder could arguably slot into the midfield of virtually any team in the world, given the system accommodates him and affords him room to delineate his brilliance.

Despite having spent nearly a decade in Italy, Calhanoglu is yet to win the Serie A title, but he will be focused on doing so in the 2023/24 season, with Inter Milan sitting pretty at the summit of the log.

Hakan Calhanoglu has made 30 appearances this season, scoring 11 goals and providing 3 assists in all competitions.

The 30-year-old is one of the first names on Simone Inzaghi's team sheet, with his qualities never in doubt, as he can change the face of a game in quick time.

Internationally, Calhanoglu has made 82 appearances for Turkey, scoring 17 goals and providing 15 assists in all competitions.

He won the Turkish Footballer of the Year award in 2021, for his stellar display throughout the calendar year.

Anyway, Inter Milan return to action on Sunday, February 25, 2024, facing Lecce, in a Matchday 26 Serie A encounter.

The Nerazzurri will be hoping to consolidate on their placement at the summit of the log, as they have amassed 63 points from 24 matches this campaign - 9 points better than rivals Juventus, who sit 2nd with 54 points from 25 matches.
