Manchester United defender Harry Maguire's efforts to clear his name over his fight in Mykonos, Greece suffered a setback as he was denied his day in court.

The England defender had geared up for the hearing, which was expected to happen in Greece on February 7, 2024, but that didn't happen due to a strike action involving lawyers in the country.

It was understood that this would be the second time the trial would be postponed as a new trial date has been set for March 2025.

Prosecutor lawyer Yannis Paradisis told the Guardian that "the case is going to be adjourned. The strike has meant that court proceedings cannot take place. We will be given a new date by the judge tomorrow."

An insider in the court said, "A lot of us want to be done with this case. But there is nothing we can do because of this union action. Lawyers can't be seen as strike-breakers. It was the last case due to be heard."

"Maguire revealed he had nothing to worry about over the incident because his conscience was clear.”

What Happened Between Harry Maguire and the Greek Police?

A fight happened outside the Bonbonniere bar after Diasy, Maguire's sister, was said to have been injected by some gangsters after she got approached by an Albanian businessman.

She was reported to have jabbed her arm with a sharp metal straw, drawing blood and causing her to faint. This prompted Maguire to intervene, leading to a horrible fight.

The footballer claimed that despite his attempt to take his sister to the hospital, he was beaten by the police after he was taken to the police station.

Maguire initially fled the scene of the fight, thinking the incident was a plot that could lead to kidnapping orchestrated by the police.

The footballer was arrested and charged to court for assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, and attempting to bribe the police officer while he was on holiday in August 2020.

It has been more than three years since the incident happened while the former Manchester United captain was holidaying with a group including his wife Fern Maguire, his sister Daisy, and his brother Joe.

The 30-year-old defender was given a 21-month suspended sentence for allegedly being in the brawl that happened in Greece. He appealed the verdict, and he had been waiting to hear from the neighboring country.

What Next for Harry Maguire?

The footballer will be available for the Manchester United encounter against Aston Villa on February 11, 2024. If the Red Devils want to be seen as a serious team again, winning at Aston Villa will be sacrosanct.
