Manchester United center-back Harry Maguire will be retried in Greece for alleged assault and bribery.

The former Manchester United captain found himself in the net of Greek authorities in 2020 when he was on a family vacation at the Mykonos - a renowned luxury and relaxation spot for A-list celebrities.

At the Mykonos, Maguire was caught in a brawl with gangsters, who reportedly wanted to attack his sister Daisy.

He was tracked down by the Greek authorities and was slammed with charges of assault and bribery. On trial, the 30-year-old former Leicester City defender pleaded not guilty but was found guilty and slammed with a 21-month suspended sentence.

Maguire fought off the ruling with an appeal and won, hence the penalty was quashed. It is understood Greek authorities have made efforts to summon Maguire for a retrial since 2020 without a breakthrough.

Meanwhile, the England international was edging close to when his statutes of limitations could be active. Statutes of limitations bar prosecutors from making legal proceedings against individuals after the expiration of a certain timeline.

Harry Maguire's status of limitations was set to be active in 2028, 8 years after the alleged offense was committed.

With four years gone, it was thought he may not return to Greece for a retrial again. Now, the Mail has confirmed Greek prosecuting lawyer Yannis Paradisis has pulled the strings to make the retrial happen.

In an interview with the Mail, Paradisis said Harry Maguire cannot escape the sledgehammer of the law and will be brought to justice soon.

The legal luminary added technical constraints and strikes by lawyers in Greece had hampered the move to reconvene a retrial of the case but all of that has been sorted.

'It will come to court,' said Paradisis. 'There is an eight-year statute of limitation from the date of the crime but we still have time for that.

'They (the Maguire camp) are waiting for their day in court. Hopefully, there are no other strikes," Yannis Paradisis said.

As per the Mail, a date has now been fixed for Maguire to re-establish his innocence again. He will be reportedly tried on March 25, 2025.
