Health worker commits suicide in Lagos medical center

A Nigerian health worker recently committed suicide in a medical facility in Lagos state, Nigeria. This lady has been identified simply as Victoria. She worked as a medical assistant at a medical facility in Lagos state and it was in this same facility that she took her own life. This incident occurred in Surulere in Lagos state. This was on the 31st of December 2023. The Surulere police division revealed that they had received a report from the medical director of this particular health center where this woman worked. The report they received came on the same day she died.
The Medical director had revealed that the lady was not seen in her duty post that day. They made attempts to call her but the call wasn’t pick and suddenly they discovered that her phone was ringing in one of the rooms in the hospital. They made attempts to open the door but it wouldn’t bulge and they eventually had to call a carpenter to force the door open. After the were able to gain entry into the room, they discovered her lifeless body on the hospital bed.
The DPO of the Surulere police station was also present at the scene of the incident. He discovered various types of drugs and injections around the woman. Some of these drugs were still inside a nylon bag while some were littered around the table next to the bed. They believe that she made use of some of these drugs to take her own life. They checked for signs of injuries on her body but found none and ruled it as a suicide case. They had taken her body to the morgue. The spokesperson of the Lagos state Police command has also confirmed the incident. He disclosed that they have commenced an investigation into the case.
