Former Emir of Kano State, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi reveals that the late Acess Bank CEO, Herbert Wigwe took him in when he was dethroned as the Emir in 2020.

During Herbert Wigwe's tribute service, Sanusi said he never envisioned that Wigwe would die before him. Moved to tears, Sanusi said, "I told him, 'Herbert, I'm placing you in charge of this trust for the education of my children because I know even if I die and I didn't leave any money, you would educate my children.' I was thinking I would die and leave Herbert."

Sanusi disclosed that Herbert Wigwe provided a plane in Kano to convey him to Lagos after the news of his dethronement broke out. On arrival, Herbert Wigwe provided a hotel for his family where they stayed before getting them an apartment to live in.

The then governor of Kano State dethroned Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, Abdullahi Ganduje on March 9th, 2020 for alleged insubordination, refusal to attend official meetings, and violation of the Kano Emirate law.

Before he assumed the throne, Lamido Sanusi was the CBN Governor until 2014 after he was sacked for mismanagement of funds. He became the 14th Emir of Kano in 2014 and was deposed in 2020.
