Dani Alves would have bagged a longer prison sentence in the Spanish Court after being convicted of rape save Neymar Jr's timely intervention.
Recall Dani Alves was asked to pay €150,000 ( £128,000) as compensation to the rape victim as part of the judgement.
According to Brazilian OUL, Neymar's family intervened heavily on Dani Alves' trial. Having played with Dani Alves in the national team and at PSG and Barcelona, Neymar reportedly made a pre-payment of the £128,000 compensation to the victim.
Neymar is also said to have lent one of his top legal representative Gustavo Xisto to assist in the defense of Neymar during the case.
According to OUL, Neymar's pre-payment of the £128,000 compensation was 'the mitigating factor' in his sentence.
Originally, Spanish prosecutors wanted a 9-year sentence for Dani Alves while the victim's lawyer wanted a 12-year sentence.
The courts reportedly reduced the sentence due to the pre-payment. Dani Alves was handed a four-and-a-half year sentence with an additional five-year parole. He was also barred from communicating with the victim for nine years and six months after his release.
Dani Alves has insisted on his innocence with his lawyer Ines Guardiola set to appeal the judgement.
