Pep Guardiola and his brother, Pere Guardiola, have changed the fortunes of a club each from being average teams to becoming title contenders.

Pep and Pere have made Manchester City and Girona well-recognized football clubs in Europe, respectively.

Pep Guardiola is gunning for his fourth successive Premier League title at Manchester City, while Pere Guardiola is focusing on winning La Liga for the first time since he was made Girona's chairman in 2017.

How Pep Guardiola’s Brother Pere Guardiola Changed the Standard at Girona

In August 2017, when Manchester City Group purchased a fifth-division team, Girona, Pep Guardiola's brother, Pere, was allowed to get 44.3% of the shares of the football club.

This happened after it was approved by the English FA that football agents are allowed to engage in football businesses outside England.

During Pep Guardiola's playing time at Barcelona, the Girona side were in the 5th division of the Spanish League.

The Girona Club were at the stage of bankruptcy when Pep Guardiola became the manager of Barcelona in 2008.

Girona tapped into the influence of Pere Guardiola after he became the Chairman to get wonderful players like Savio.

Because the club was unable to sign big-name players, Pere and his management team had to focus on other means of recruitment. They signed players for Manchester City and loaned them to Girona.

Manchester City signed Douglas Luiz from Vasco de Gama for €12 million in 2017. He was later sent on loan to play for Girona FC for two years.

Luiz is now one of the most sought-after players in the Premier League since joining Aston Villa in 2019.

However, in the 2018–19 season, Girona got relegated and failed to secure promotion back to La Liga.

Pere Guardiola, who was the chairman of the football club, changed his strategy of recruitment and started investing in young players with a low salary structure.

Pere Guardiola brought Michel in as manager. Also, because Pere is a football agent, it was easy for Girona to convince players to join them.

The Girona side got promoted in 2022 and automatically changed their history with good football and impressive stats in the 2023–24 season.

The team are currently in 2nd place on the La Liga table. They are on the same level in terms of points with Real Madrid for the first time since Pere Guardiola was made chairman of the club.

Girona, who defeated Barcelona 4-2 on December 10, 2023, are above the Xavi Hernandez men with seven points.

How Pep Guardiola Increased the Standard at Manchester City

The Spanish manager joined Manchester City in the 2016-17 season after the club sacked Manuel Pellegrini.

Guardiola failed to win a single trophy in his first season at the club, but he went on to win 16 trophies in all competitions.

Guardiola rewrote the Manchester City story, making them the second Premier League team to win the treble.

Also, he made Manchester City the first Premier League team to win five trophies in a single season.

In addition, he made Manchester City the second team in Premier League history to win three Premier League titles in a row.

The Manchester City side are targeting winning yet another treble this season. They are currently in 3rd place on the Premier League table this season.
