There is currently a water shortage in Catalonia, Spain, and it is affecting FC Barcelona players negatively.

The region is expected to enter a pre-emergency phase due to the non-availability of water in the region.

One of the measures the city wants to implement to conserve water is putting a ban on using water in the gym centers and other sports centers in the city.

Barcelona, being the biggest football venue in the city, wouldn't be left behind when the ban is imposed on the city in January 2024.

It was revealed by David Mascort, the Minister for Climate Action, Food, and Rural Affairs, that the Barcelona football club is the major consumer of water in the city. There is a need to drastically reduce the usage.

Currently, Barcelona players will have to shower at home before coming to any football match at the Montjuïc Stadium.

The alternative means for the club is to purchase water or replace used water immediately.

According to different reports, rainfall in Spain had been around 17% below the 30-year average.

Water consumption had also increased by 20 liters to 210 in a day.

In addition, the bills are set to increase by 11–16% in 22 municipalities around the cities.

However, it was revealed that Barcelona and Girona had signed an agreement to end the water drought in the city.

The agreement was signed by Barça club president Joan Laporta, Girona president Delfí Geli, presidency minister Laura Vilagrà, and climate action minister David Mascort.

However, the Barcelona team are already facing on-field challenges.

Barcelona had lost two matches in a row after Royal Antwerp defeated Barcelona in the Champions League on December 13, 2023.

It was revealed that Barcelona President Joan Laporta went into the dressing room to discuss it personally with the manager and the football players.

Barcelona are in 4th place on the La Liga table after losing to Girona.

The manager's job is currently under scrutiny, and he is likely to get sacked if he ends up without a trophy this season.

What Next for Barcelona and Xavi Hernandez?
The Barcelona side will face Valencia on December 16, 2023, at 9:00 p.m.

There is a need for Xavi Hernandez's side to defeat Valencia in a bid to put pressure on leader Girona.

Valencia, who are currently in 11th place, are a difficult team to defeat at home.

Xavi needs to play his best team and get Robert Lewandowski back to his form.

The Barcelona team had also struggled defensively this season, conceding seven goals in two matches.
