French goalie Hugo Lloris has joined MLS side Los Angeles FC from Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer.
Lloris has penned a one-year deal with the Major League Soccer side, which will run until the end of the 2024 season.
However, Hugo Lloris has the option of extending the deal for an additional two years, which could see him remain in Los Angeles until 2026.
The 37-year-old made 444 appearances in his 11-year stay at Tottenham Hotspur, placing him 7th on their all-time list.
Lloris joined Spurs from Olympique Lyon on August 31, 2012, for a fee of €12.6 million, and he kept 151 clean sheets throughout his time at the club.
Speaking on his departure from North London, Hugo Lloris expressed that it has been a great privilege to play and captain Tottenham Hotspur.
The Frenchman said: “Spurs will always be a special place for me and all my family.
“It has been a great privilege to be one of yours and one of your captains for many years and it's the end of the chapter, but you will be always in my hearts.”
The co-president of Los Angeles FC and general manager John Thorrington termed Lloris as “arguably the most successful goalkeeper of his generation and a proven winner”.
Hugo Lloris was amongst the squad that made it to the final of the 2019 Champions League final, but he dropped a pointer towards leaving the club in the summer as he got into the final 12 months of his deal.
Lloris also played in the 2018 FIFA World Cup final, where France defeated Croatia by 4-2.
The former OGC Nice goalie has not been in action since a 6-1 defeat to Newcastle United in April 2023.
Hugo Lloris picked up a knock at the culminating stage of the 2022/23 season, and when he returned from injury, he realized that he had lost his number-one spot to Italian shot-stopper Guglielmo Vicario.
Ange Postecoglou has also put him behind Fraser Forster on the pecking order, and as such he saw the handwriting on the wall that he needed to exit the club.
He made 31 appearances for Spurs last term, amassing 9 clean sheets in a woeful campaign for the Lillywhites.
The Spurs great will come on the Tottenham Hotspur turf at halftime of their Premier League encounter against Bournemouth on Sunday, December 31, 2023, to bid his goodbye to the fans.
Hugo Lloris has had an impressive career, winning several trophies including; 1 Coupe de France, 1 Trophée des Champions, and 1 UEFA Nations League.
Lloris is one of the best goalkeepers of his generation, but he also had graven howlers of his own in major matches.
He has played under several great managers in his career, including; Mauricio Pochettino, Jose Mourinho, and Antonio Conte.
