Nollywood actress Stephanie Coker opens up on how polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) affected her chances of being a mother.
In a recent interview with Chude, Stephanie Coker revealed that her period seized for a year and she had to undergo in-vitro fertilization (IVF) to give birth. The doctor had said her chances of having a child were low because her PCOS was severe. Stephanie Coker said she got pregnant after the first IVF but the second one failed.
She recalled standing in front of a moving car and praying for death to come. Coker also mentioned how she once felt unaccepted by her daughter for a long time due to her health issues.
Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder in women causing enlarged ovaries with small cysts on the outer edges. Women who have PCOS experience symptoms like irregular periods or no period at all, acne, obesity, abnormal hair growth in various parts of the body like the chin, mustache, breast, chest, etc.
PCOS has no cure but it can be managed using medications like birth control pills to stabilize the menstrual cycle, hormones, and procedures to reduce the risk. PCOS can cause infertility and increase pregnancy complications like gestational diabetes, high blood pressure, pre-eclampsia, and premature birth in women.
