In a recent interview with BBC news, popular footballer Asisat Oshoala's father revealed that he never supported his daughter's dreams of becoming a footballer.
He mentioned that he always kicked against her goals because he didn't see a gleam of hope or anything promising about the sport. His only expectation from Oshoala was to be educated and be better than him in all ramifications.
"We didn’t see a bright future for her in football and my plan was to make sure all my children attained a high level of education and do better than us parents.", He said.
However, he said he is now content because his daughter didn't quit her dream of becoming a footballer because of him.
Asisat Oshoala plays professionally for FC Barcelona and she is also part of the Super Falcons national team. Asisat has made the country proud in the ongoing World Cup tournament.
Asisat Oshoala scored the third goal during the Australian vs Nigeria match which qualified Nigeria for the next round. After Oshoala scored the goal, she removed her jersey showing how overjoyed she was.
However, this was taken wrongly by viewers at home who said it was inappropriate for her to take off her shirt as a lady and most especially, Oshoala's father.
Few hours later, she posted some highlights of the game on her Instagram page saying that her father wasn't happy with her mode of celebration.
Her father told the BBC that his reaction to his daughter's actions were not intentional but was due to emotions. He said, "It was an outpouring of emotions and it was not intentional. I am proud of my daughter. What I said to her is between my daughter and I."
