Arsenal legend Ian Wright was in disbelief that Manchester United sensation Kobbie Mainoo was not in the England squad ahead of the March international friendly matches.

The 18-year-old midfielder was snubbed by England manager Gareth Southgate when the manager announced the 25-man squad for the Three Lions friendly matches against Brazil and Belgium on 23 and 26 of March respectively.

However, the Manchester United midfielder received a call-up to play for England U-21, despite the interest from the Ghanaian national team.

Kobbie Mainoo made his 20th appearance for Manchester United in a fierce match against Liverpool in the FA Cup.

He immensely contributed to the success of Manchester United, even though he was substituted in the 80th minute of the match.

After Mainoo's performance in the FA Cup, former Arsenal striker Ian Wright posted a video of himself on social media, criticizing Gareth Southgate for ignoring Mainoo.

He said, "How's Kobbie Mainoo not in that squad? Roy Keane, how's Kobbie Mainoo not in that squad? Come on, man. Come on. The man was immense today."

This is not the first time Wright has praised the Manchester United youngster. After Manchester United defeated Luton Town 2-1, Wright said, "What a fabulous player."

Who Did Gareth Southgate Opt For Ahead of Kobbie Mainoo?

The England manager decided to go for a more experienced player, Jordan Henderson, who currently plays for Ajax in the Dutch League.

Southgate was also ruthless in picking the 25-man squad ahead of the friendly matches. He dropped the struggling West Ham midfielder, Kevin Phillips.

In addition, Southgate warned Marcus Rashford that he would lose his place in the England Squad if he fails to live up to expectations.

The English squad has more gems who are capable of replacing underperforming players in the upcoming friendly matches.

The English manager, Gareth Southgate, revealed the reason he left Mainoo out of the squad, saying, "He's only had a handful of games, and you have to be very careful development-wise in making those decisions at the right time."

"So we think, ideally, we should allow him that space to develop at his speed. He's not at the point in terms of the number of games that Bellingham and Saka played when they came in for the first time."

The Southgate decision is going to help Mainoo in the long run, who needs to develop more into playing for the Three Lions of England.

His calmness and agility on the ball had made people refer to him as a generational talent.

He is one of the most important players in the Manchester United squad. Mainoo excellently controls the midfield, even against a well-coached team.
