IBM has officially acquired Prescinto, a Bangalore-based company specializing in asset performance management (APM) software-as-a-service (SaaS) solutions, specifically for the renewable energy sector. This strategic acquisition aims to enhance IBM’s ability to manage and optimize renewable energy assets such as wind and solar power systems.

Prescinto, founded in 2016, operates in 14 countries and manages over 16GW of energy assets globally. The company's AI-driven technology provides critical services including real-time monitoring, advanced analytics, automation, and performance optimization for complex renewable energy systems. Its software is designed to capture data using open-source protocols, monitor assets with high-definition mapping, and trigger AI-driven insights to improve energy output and reduce operational inefficiencies.

By integrating Prescinto's APM solutions into its Maximo Application Suite (MAS), IBM seeks to expand its capabilities in asset lifecycle management. MAS is already a widely used platform across various industries including water, natural gas, oil, and nuclear energy. The addition of Prescinto's technology will enable IBM to provide real-time performance tracking, detect inefficiencies such as dirt on solar panels, and offer corrective actions to enhance energy generation and asset longevity.

This acquisition underscores IBM's ongoing commitment to supporting clients in achieving sustainability and net-zero goals. With renewable energy playing an increasingly critical role in reducing global carbon emissions, the ability to manage and optimize these assets becomes crucial. IBM’s expanded MAS capabilities will empower businesses to monitor renewable energy assets in near real-time, identify underperformance, and implement AI-driven solutions to maximize efficiency.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. This acquisition follows IBM’s recent purchase of Accelalpha, a provider of Oracle services, further demonstrating IBM's focus on expanding its cloud and AI capabilities in critical sectors.

Incorporating Prescinto's technology will help IBM continue to lead in renewable energy asset management while positioning itself as a key player in the growing global sustainability movement.
