Popular Nollywood actress, Mary Njoku, has shared her opinion on the ongoing drama between Yul Edochie and his former wife May Edochie. She stated that it shouldn't be compulsory to change ones lastname after the marriage ends. Recall Yul Edochie and his wife May were recently in some drama after they split up. Yul Edochie had asked May Edochie to change her surname from Edochie and he also requested for the bride price he paid to her family and this had caused reactions from various Nigerians. Many other Nigerians have weighed in on the matter and Mary Njoku has also shared her opinion.
Mary Remmy Njoku is a well-known Nigerian actress who has featured in many Nollywood movies over the years. She is also a film producer. She is 38 years old. She is married to Jason Njoku. They tied the knot in 2012 and they have 3 children together. She subtly shared her perspective on the issue of changing surname after divorce. Mary stated that a woman has the liberty to change her name but it shouldn't be made compulsory. She stated that a woman shouldn't be forced to change her name because this will mean bearing a different surname from her children.
She revealed that it takes to build a reputation and changing the name should be voluntary not compulsory. She stated hoe some wives have also contributed to buing the family name and forcing them to change their names shouldn't be. She shared this write up on her Instagram page.
