Ike Ekweremadu and wife found guilty of illegal organ harvesting plot
A Nigerian senator named Ike Ekweremadu was found guilty of an illegal organ harvesting plot by the court.
This happened on Thursday, March 23rd at the UK's Old Bailey Court.
Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice and the doctor, Dr. Obinna Obeta were found guilty of this crime.
They were involved in trafficking a 21-year-old street trader to the UK and this was to provide a kidney for a lady called Sonia who is the daughter of the Ekweremadus.
They plotted to bring this young man from Nigeria so as to exploit him to donate his kidney to their daughter, Sonia.
Sonia suffers from a kidney condition that's why they made these plans to briing this unsuspecting man from Nigeria to London.
The victim was offered some money and also promised of work in the UK. What he didn't know was that they had other plans for him and his Kidney.
He claimed he was told to pretend that he was Sonia's cousin so as to get the transplant approved.
The medical professionals working in the hospital became suspicious of the who situation and refused to continue with the surgery. He became suspicious because the victim initially seem not to be aware of the donation and he was not as old as his passport claimed he was which was 41 years.
The victim whose name will not be mentioned ran away and ended up sleeping on the streets for 3 days before he went to the police station. It was on the 5th of May 2022 that he walked into Staines Police Station.
He victim while in tears mentioned that he had been trafficked to the UK and some was attempting to take his organs.
He told the police later on that he didn't have an idea that his kidney was going to be taken out until he was taken to meet the surgeon.
The chief Crown Prosecutor, Joanne Jakymec mentioned how horrific it was to exploit such a vulnerable victim and trick the young man into donating his kidney.
The daughter of the Ekweremadus, Sonia was cleared from the the charge. She was the one who was supposed to receive the kidney.
