"I'm senior in the movie industry" Pete Edochie reveals
Popular Veteran actor Pete Edochie has revamed that he is Senior in the movie industry. He recently revealed that he had began acting during before Nollywood was formed. Pete Edochie is a famous Nigerian actor who is famous for acting in numerous Nollywood movies. He was recently honoured with a Doctorate degree in Arts and Literature from ISTM University.
He revealed that when he acted in his debut movie debut which is the 1985 adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s novel, ‘Things Fall Apart,’ there was no Nollywood. He revealed this in a recent interview with Afia TV. He shared that his acting careercommmved before the term Nollywood came to be.
In his words “I’m senior in the movie industry. I mean, when I did ‘Things Fall Apart’ in 1985, there was nothing like Nollywood. There was an expression my lecturer always used 'Nollywood was slumbering sonorously in the womb of time'.
He also added that it wasn't until 7 years after when Nollywood eventually came to be. He says it was years after he retired from broadcasting that he then joined Nollywood.
He also mentioned that “It was seven years after that Nollywood came on board with ‘Living In Bondage.’ I went round the world before Nollywood came. By the special grace of God, after I did ‘Things Fall Apart,’ I was celebrated internationally. The BCC flew in here to interview me and tell flew into America to interview Chinua Achebe. And Achebe said, ‘Pete Edochie gave that role an interpretation after my heart.’ Before he died, he was calling me Okonkwo. Seven years after Nollywood came and when I retired from broadcasting, I joined Nollywood.”
