Imo Police arrest two armed robbers and recover weapons and stolen items.
Officers of the Imo state police command have arrested 2 armed robbers in Imo state. These officers were able to interfere and stop a robber attack in the state.
This incident occurred yesterday, Saturday. This was in the Ikenegbu area in Owerri, Imo state. The robbers were armed with weapons and had gone to a gold store to Rob. This store is Goldwise Wisdom Gold stores, in Owerri.
Some witnesses in the area revealed that these robbers had arrived in the area in a white pick-up van. They were heavily armed and were clad in military uniforms.
They entered the shop and robbed the shop. They stole so many items worth millions of naira.
It was a policeman nearby at an eatery who saw them and suspected something was wrong.
When these robbers were ready to leave, this policeman then opened fire on them.
These armed robbers were 5 in number and as soon as the police opened fire on them, they returned it and began shooting at the police as well.
The gunshots cause many shop owners and pedestrians to flee.
The policeman was able to shoot at one of the armed robbers who was the driver. Thus driver died in the spot. The others quickly came down from the vehicle and began running.
More Police reinforcement then arrives at the scene and caught 2 of these robbers while 2 others escaped.
They were able to recover the stolen items immediately from them. The jewelries they stole alongside their weapons were recovered.
Good enough, there were no casualties except for the Criminal.
The police have paraded the armed robbers who were caught and also the body of the dead robber at the command headquarters.
Henry Okoye who is the police spokesman revealed that the state Commissioner of police who is Muhammed Berde, expr3ssed his gratitude to the officers who foiled the operation of these robbers.
The spokesperson also revealed the names of the suspects who were caught and they are Peter Gaura who is 27 years old and Promise Joshua who is 25 years old.
He confirmed that during the shootout, one robber was killed, 2 arrested while the other 2 escaped with injuries.
They searched the atrested suspects and recovered some weapons from them and the scene.
They recovered 2 pump action guns, 1 expanded cartridges, 4 locally-made pistols, 8 rounds of live cartridges and the Hilux van they drove.
He revealed that none of the shop owners or customers was harmed and this was due to the response of the police.
They will investigate these arrested susoects thoroughly and arraigned the. Once the investigatiom has been Completed.
They have deposited the body of the suspect who was killed at the morgue. A search is ongoing to locate the other criminals.
