Ivan Toney has refused to rule out the possibility of him leaving Brentford in this January transfer window after sharing his desire to play for a “top club”.
Toney can now represent the Bees again, following the expiration of an eighth-month ban for breaching betting rules.
Ivan Toney is expected to return to action for the Bees on Sunday, January 20, 2024, in their Premier League home clash against Nottingham Forest.
The Englishman has been sublime for Brentford B in recent weeks, netting a hat-trick against Southampton Under 21's.
Toney also scored a panenka penalty against Brondby, all in an effort to get back to his best.
The 27-year-old has caught the eyes of several clubs, including; Chelsea and Manchester United.
Reports also indicate that Arsenal are keen on getting the services of the former Newcastle United man, but they will not be making an approach for him this window.
Speaking regarding the future of Ivan Toney, Brentford boss Thomas Frank spoke confidently that he is certain that his goal poacher will not be sold during the January window.
However, Toney hasn't ruled out making a potential move away from the Gtech Community Stadium.
The 27-year-old has his sights on representing England at the 2024 European Championships which will be played in Germany.
Ivan Toney was questioned on Sky Sports on whether this month would be the perfect time for him to exit Brentford and he said:
“I don't know. You can never predict when's the right time to move elsewhere. But it's obvious I want to play for a top club, everyone wants to play for a top club and fight for titles.
“Whether it's this January that is the right time for a club to come in and pay the right money, who knows.”
It has been said that Brentford could demand an amount above €100 million to sell Toney to any club interested in signing the one-cap England international.
Ivan Toney in November appeared like he was keen on remaining with Brentford past this winter transfer window, as he felt indebted to the team.
The 27-year-old talked about the assistance manager Thomas Frank has offered him and shared that he has “a lot to repay them and I can't wait to try and do that.”
Toney said: “Frank has been nothing but the biggest help I could have asked for.
“The whole club has - from putting extra sessions on for me, from taking their time out to put a session on and go outside when it's raining, when they're not supposed to be in.
“I have a lot to repay them and I can't wait to try and do that.
“The fans were behind me. Even when I wasn't at their games, they were singing my name.”
Ivan Toney also shared his thoughts on his suspension being lifted, saying that he feels “like a free man”.
Toney added that being absent from football for about 8 months was painful but he had the right people around him to get him back on track.
He said: “My whole family knows what the weekends are about - they travel down to watch me play football. Missing that for eight months is painful.
“You can become a bit lost in the world, but I had the right people around me to help me get to places to train and do the right exercises.”
Ivan Toney joined Brentford from Peterborough United on September 1, 2020, for a fee of €5.6 million.
Toney last featured for the Bees on May 6, 2023, playing all 90 minutes in a 1-0 loss to Liverpool.
The former Northampton Town man was magnificent in the 2022/23 season before his suspension, as he netted 21 goals and provided 5 assists in 35 appearances for Brentford across all competitions.
