Former Liverpool player and pundit Jamie Carragher has defended Jurgen Klopp from United fans who compared Erik ten Hag's rickety start as United manager to Jurgen Klopp's start at Liverpool.
Manchester United fans have been divided over the prospects of Erik ten Hag at the club's dugout. After a prolific pre-season campaign, ten Hag was mauled to submission in his first two Premier League games at Manchester United. The Dutch however rose from the ashes of defeat to return Manchester United to Champions League football and also ended a six-year trophy drought with EFL Cup win.
It was an impressive start for Erik ten Hag on his debut season at United's dugout. Now, it appears the Dutch has lost his magic wane with United crashing out of the Champions League in the group stages and oscillating on the Premier League table with inconsistent domestic results.
Sections of Man United fans seem to have lost trust in Erik ten Hag while others are hopeful he will get his axes right. Some Manchester United fans even compared him to how Jurgen Klopp started at Liverpool, praying the fans and the club to give him time to fix things.
However, former Liverpool player and Premier League pundit, Jamie Carragher, is unfazed by such a comparison. According to Carragher Jurgen Klopp recorded a far better start as Liverpool manager than Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.
Carragher backed his claims with a sequence of Jurgen Klopp's gradual transformational records in his first season which include reaching two cup finals in his first year (Europa League and FA Cup), qualifying for the Champions League in his second year, and reaching Champions League final on his third year.
Carragher concluded his argument by asking critics to stop comparing Klopp with their own managers as the German tactician had a pretty great start with Liverpool.
"People have to stop comparing Klopp to their own managers. Klopp has been fantastic from day one," he said.
Did Jurgen Klopp have better Premier League start than Erik ten Hag?
Obviously, Jurgen Klopp had a great start with Liverpool. Erik ten Hag equally did a great job at Manchester United in his first season but it appears the Dutch may not match Klopp's second-year stats at Liverpool with United's dwindling fortunes this season.
