Liverpool defender Joel Matip will likely miss the rest of the season after getting an injury in their last match against Fulham.
The announcement was made after Liverpool gaffer, Jurgen Klopp, confirmed that his center-back developed a knee injury in their last match.
The defender due to the injury, was subbed off about 20 minutes to the end of their game and his return is uncertain.
While confirming the injury, Klopp said: “I don’t know exactly how long he will be out but it doesn’t look good".
Matip signed for Liverpool from German side Schalke 7 years ago and he is currently in the last year of his contract with the club.
Since joining Liverpool, Matip has made 201 appearances and has scored 11 goals.
Matip will become a free agent at the end of the season as he is still in doubt about signing a new deal.
However, the Liverpool boss is looking to keep the Cameroon international in the team.
Klopp, while trying to manage with not having Joel Matip in the defensive line for his team, also saw Mac Allister forced off the pitch in their 2-0 win against Sheffield United.
According to the Liverpool Gaffer: “Alexis had an open wound, we had to stitch it and then we had to do it again and it stiffened up. We hope it will not be too long.
“Joel has had a scan and has ruptured an ACL which is what I expected. It is very unfortunate.”
The club is currently among the contenders for the English Premier League title and they occupy the second position on the log.
However, their hope of being a strong contender for the title is now uncertain following their recent injury blows.
Since Klopp took over the club in 2015, Liverpool has been able to win 7 trophies despite entering several finals.
With Matip and Mac Allister joining the list, Liverpool now have 7 players on injury, although there are speculations that Diogo Jota and Allison Becker might return before the end of the month.
Klopp has however described the festive part of the season as the toughest period of world football as he will be playing most of his matches without some of his key players.
Jurgen Klopp's side has been making waves in the UEFA Europa League, as they were unable to secure a spot in the Champions League last season.
Liverpool moved to the Europa League round of 16 with a 4-0 victory against LASK.
During the 4-0 win, Mohammed Salah scored his 199 goals for the club and Ciady Gakpo scored a brace to help the team secure a massive win.
