Jose Mourinho has named Lionel Messi as the player he would have loved to work with due to the Argentine's undoubtable qualities.
Mourinho handed massive plaudits to Messi, who currently plays for MLS side Inter Miami.
Jose Mourinho is currently also out of managerial duty after he left AS Roma by mutual consent in January 2024.
Speaking to influencer Ohm on his YouTube channel, the Portuguese tactician made this comment when asked to name superstars he wishes he had crossed paths with.
Mourinho has had the pleasure of working with several electric names, including; Cristiano Ronaldo, Cesc Fabregas, Paul Pogba, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic amongst others.
However, the former Chelsea boss was swift in naming Lionel Messi as a player he wishes he had worked with.
Jose Mourinho spoke highly of the 36-year-old, terming him as one player he “never got to train but then nobody can train Messi.”
Mourinho also said that “Messi was born with everything, and already knows everything”.
He made the statement whilst talking about how absurd it is for any manager to think they can coach him.
The 60-year-old said: “It is absurd to think you could coach him because he was born with everything and already knows everything.
“He might teach you some things. All you could say is that you had the honor of having him in your squad.”
The pair have faced off on many occasions, most notably in the El Classico and during the semi-final of the 2009/10 UEFA Champions League campaign.
Jose Mourinho had to devise a means to stop prime Messi from showing his brilliance, putting several players on him to ensure that his Inter Milan side came away with the win over two legs and ultimately progressed into the final of the Champions League.
During Mourinho's time in Spain managing Real Madrid, the pair also were involved in several battles, with Lionel Messi being the architect of Los Blancos' failures on many occasions.
The 36-year-old displayed his brilliance during his peak years and he was absolutely unplayable, even in European competitions.
During the 2010/2011 season, Lionel Messi scored a worldie of a goal in the Champions League semi-final, dashing past 5 Real Madrid players before brilliantly culminating the job with a sublime finish.
However, Jose Mourinho and Messi have no love lost for each other but respect, and there is still time for both to be in the same team, given the possibility of Inter Miami boss Tata Martino exiting the club.
Martino is still keen on remaining in Miami, however, if the Herons' fortunes don't improve significantly in the coming season, they could turn their attention to Jose Mourinho, if he is willing to coach in the MLS.
The former Manchester United manager has ruled himself out of managerial moves to Saudi Arabia, despite the staggering offers he has received.
Jose Mourinho is also not ready to retire from football, with him still focused on getting a top job in Europe.
