Jose Mourinho has been suspended for Roma's upcoming league match against AC Milan after being sent off during his team's 1-1 draw with Atalanta.

In Roma's 1-1 draw with Atalanta on Sunday, December 7, Jose Mourinho was dismissed after receiving two yellow cards for angrily confronting the referee during both halves of the game.

What happened?

The match between the two rival teams was very tense, ending with a 1-1 draw after Roma's forward Paulo Dybala saved his side by scoring a penalty in the first half.

Atalanta's midfielder Teun Koopmeiners had put the visitors in the lead with a goal eight minutes into the game, but Dybala equalized with a penalty six minutes before halftime after a VAR review awarded Roma a penalty for Matteo Ruggeri's foul on Rick Karsdorp.

Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho was initially shown a yellow card in stoppage time during the first half for protesting against referee Gianluca Aureliano's decision.

The Portuguese boss reacted by sprinting out of his dugout in typical Mourinho fashion and refused to return to his technical area when instructed to do so.

After being booked earlier in the game, Mourinho saw red in stoppage time for protesting at the officials following a foul on Romelu Lukaku.

The Roma boss reacted angrily, slamming his hands off his knees and yelling in frustration against the referee's decision.

The former Manchester United boss would have liked the foul to be called in favor of his team.

However, Mourinho's reaction did not go unnoticed and the referee shortly after pulled out the red card.

As a result, he was ultimately sent off for dissent in his team's first match in the year 2024.

Following the 1-1 draw, Mourinho and his Roma players have refused to speak to the media.

Meanwhile, The Portuguese renowned football manager Mourinho has a history of being sent off from the touchline.

He was given a straight red card in October for mocking the Monza bench and then faced disciplinary action last month for his comments about a referee, resulting in a €40,000 fine.

Roma have not won in four of their last five league matches and currently sits in eighth place in the standings with 29 points.

They are one point behind Lazio who occupy the seventh place and Atalanta in sixth, and four points behind Fiorentina in fourth place.

What's next for Jose Mourinho?

The former Real Madrid manager will be facing suspension for his team's next Serie A match against AC Milan on Sunday, December 14.

However, he may be able to be on the sidelines in the game before that as his team will face Lazio in the Coppa Italia on Wednesday, December 10.
