Kevin De Bruyne, a midfielder for Manchester City, believes the Premier League champions must win the Champions League this season in order to "transform the perspective" of the club.
On Wednesday, City will travel to Spain to face Real Madrid in the Champions League final.
The Citizens would have a chance to win the trophy for the first time in their existence.
Pep Guardiola's team has already won numerous domestic trophies, but De Bruyne believes the Champions League will elevate the club to new heights.
"I believe it would alter the viewpoint from the outside. We've been fighting for several years and are now in the final phases, so we've done exceptionally well. "
It's a cup tournament, and the quality is quite good, so winning is extremely difficult, but in the end, if you look at how we performed and how I performed over the last seven years, we did extremely well.
"We haven't won it," De Bruyne said at a press conference on Tuesday. But winning it would change that little narrative.
City won the first leg 4-3 at the Etihad Stadium, and if they defeat Madrid, they will meet Liverpool in Paris.
