The Nigerian Police PRO Olumuyiwa Adejobi has stated that kidnapping isn't rampant in Nigeria and that social media often exaggerates it.

In the past weeks, there has been a rise in kidnappings and related activities across the country. Over 20 people were kidnapped and killed in the Federal Capital last month and in other states including Kwara, Ekiti, Ogun, and Lagos among others. The recent one was the Ekiti school kidnapping which occurred a few days ago.

In a recent interview, PRO Olumuyiwa Adejobi said these kidnaps happen as a result of the topography of the nation. He said the kidnappings in Bwari and Lagos are caused by the country's topography. He said the Lagos waterways lead to Delta, Bayelsa, and Port Harcourt so this makes it easy for the kidnappers to penetrate these areas.

Adejobi said social media amplifies these happenings but in reality, the kidnaps haven't gotten out of hand. He also said the Ekiti incident does not occur regularly so that makes it an isolated case. He added that there is no rise in kidnapping in the South-West, North, and Eastern parts of the country.
