Killer nurse Lucy Letby sentenced to life imprisonment
A nurse named Lucy Letby has been sentenced to life imprisonment after killing several babies in England. She was given her sentence recently after her trial at the Manchester Crown Court.
Lucy Letby is a 33 year old British nurse in Northern England and a serial killer. She had attacked not less than 13 babies put in her card between 2015 and 2016. This nurse had killed 7 of these babies.
She was convicted recently at the Manchester Crown Court for killing 7 babies. She had also attempted to kill 6 more making a total of 13 babies which she attacked.
She killed them either by overfeeding them with milk, poisoning them with insulin, or injecting them with air. All these happened while she was working as a nurse in the neonatal unit in Countess of Chester Hospital which is located in northern England.
While in court on Monday, the judge said “You acted in a way that was completely contrary to the normal human instincts of nurturing and caring for babies"
He continued saying “You deliberately harmed them intending to kill them. In your evidence, you said that hurting a baby is completely against everything that being a nurse is, as indeed it should be.”
They went ahead to reveal other offences she had committed which include making inappropriate remarks after these babies died.
She was handed her sentence by the Judge and it was “a whole life sentence for every offence”. Lucy Letby will be seeing the rest of her life in Prison.
Lucy Letby didn't appear physically in court and also refused to listen to the hearing via video from prison. Her family was present at the hearing and revealed how her actions had affected their lives as well.
Lucy Letby has been on trial since October last year, 2022. She had repeatedly denied attacking these babies. However the police searched her home and found some hospital paperwork and a handwritten note which had “I am evil, I did this.” written by Lucy.
She tried to explain saying she wrote that not after she was placed on clerical duties after the death of the two triplets. According to her, some doctors had tried to place the blame on her.
