King Charles III has formally been crowned as the King. Today, May 6 2023 is the coronation day. He was crowned at Westminster Abbey.
This is the first coronation in 7 decades.
It was the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby who placed the St. Edward’s Crown on King Charles III’s head.
The placing of the Crown is a very important part of the coronation.
The Archbishop had said some words of blessings as he had prepared to carry out this action.
The King also took his coronation oath and this was before the crown was placed on his head.
A coronation anthem was sung at the coronation. This anthem was written in 1902 for the coronation of King Edward VII. It was written by Hubert Parry.
All the siblings of the King were present at the coronation. Queen Camilla's family was also present.
