Kristoffer Olsson is battling with some small blood clots on both sides of his brain, according to FC Midtjylland.
Midtjylland revealed that Olsson's condition was due to “an extremely rare inflammatory condition in his brain vessels”.
Kristoffer Olsson was put on a ventilator in hospital on February 20, 2024, after losing consciousness at his home.
The Danish club have also shared that the 28-year-old is in a stable condition and has been treated by medical specialists.
FC Midtjylland said: “The diagnosis matches the thesis on which the medical specialists have so far worked and treated Kristoffer.”
They added that the midfielder's level of consciousness is improving and medical specialists will at a slow pace try to phase the Swedish midfielder out of the ventilator.
“Kristoffer Olsson's condition is now considered stable and the doctors continue to see some progress", the club said.
“At the same time, they feel that Kristoffer's level of consciousness is increasing.
“In the coming period, the doctors will slowly try to phase the Swedish midfielder out of the ventilator.
“But he remains in intensive care and it is not yet possible to say anything about the treatment's time frame and final prognosis.”
Kristoffer Olsson is a product of Arsenal's youth academy and he made one appearance for the North London side before he permanently moved to FC Midtjylland on January 4, 2015, for a fee of €1 million.
The 28-year-old left Midtjylland to join Swedish side AIK on January 31, 2017, for a fee of €1 million.
Olsson also had spells at Russian club Krasnodar and Belgian side RSC Anderlecht before returning to FC Midtjylland on July 3, 2023, for a fee of €2.80 million.
