Labour Party’s Alex Otti wins Abia governorship election

There was indeed jubilation in Abia State when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Alex Otti as winner.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, decalred the winner of the gubernatorial elections in Abia State as Alex Otti from Labour Party.
They announced this on Wednesday, March 22, 2023.

The gubernatorial and state house of assembly elections were held on the 18th of march, 2023 which was just last Saturday.

Alex Otti is a Nigerian politician, banker and economist. He is also the former Group Managing Director of Diamond Bank Plc.

After the elections held, INEC suspended the collation of results and since then, there are been series of protests and tension in Abia State.

Eventually, the reacts were announced yesterday. Alex Otti had a total of 175,466 votes while his opponent, Okey Ahiwe from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had a total of 88,529 votes.

It was Prof Nnenna Oti the Returning Officer who declared Alex Otti as the winner at the INEC headquarters in Abia State.

Many Labour Party supporters began to jubilation as they had finally won.

Mr Otti gave his acceptance speech and mentioned it was only the beginning of the journey and he will effective work to serve the people and alleviate sufferings as he had been elected to serve.
