Lagos-Ibadan Expressway accident claims 1 life and leaves 7 injured

A recent auto crash which occured on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway has led to the death of 1 person and 7 others injured. This accident occured yesterday, Sunday, October 1, 2023. The victim who died in the crash is yet to be identified.

This accident occured at the Magboro Bust Stop along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. There had been 16 passengers Involved in the accident. 7 of them were injured, 1 person died while the others were rescued unhurt. The crash occurred around 7.50am.

There were 2 vehicles involved in the accident and they include a Mercedes Benz ML350 and a Volkswagen commercial bus. The Mercedes has a number plate of AKD424HH while the bus has the plate number KSF934YA. A witness revealed how the accident had occurred, saying that it happened when the Mercedes Benz collided with the bus which had been parked at a bus stop. The benz had been trying to avoid a pedestrian when it crashed into the bus.

The witness revealed that the driver of the benz was trying to avoid hitting a pedestrian who was trying to cross the road. He then swerved the car and this led to a loss of control, before he crashed into the bus. The driver of the bus had been waiting for passengers at the bus stop.
Some other witnesses claimed that it had been the indiscriminate parking of the bus at the bus Stop which contributed to the accident. The accident was also as a result of speeding on the part of the Mercedes Benz.

The Public Relations Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the Ogun State Sector Command, Florence Okpe, has also confirmed the accident. She also attributed it to speeding.

She stated “I can confirm the accident which happened at about 7.50am on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at Magboro Bust Stop outward Lagos. Sixteen persons, including eight males and eight females were involved. Seven persons were injured while one person died. The vehicles involved are one Volkswagen yellow bus with number plate KSF934YA and one Mercedes Benz ML350 with number plate AKD424HH. The cause of the accident is speeding which led to loss of control.”
