Lagos-Ibadan expressway accident leads to death of 2 people

An accident which recently occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has claimed the lives of 2 people. A total of 10 people were involved in this accident which occured recently. 2 people died while 8 others sustained injuries from the crash.

The crash occurred yesterday, Tuesday September 5th 2023 on the Expressway. This was around Christopher University. It was a single crash which involved a Toyota Hiace. The vehicle had the number plate GAS 937 XA.

It was the spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the Ogun State Command, Florence Okpe who revealed the news recently in a statement. He revealed this to news men in the State.

They shared that this crash had occured due to wrongful overtaking and excessive speed. The statement they released revealed that their men had carried out a rescue operation after the accident occured. It had happened around 11:30am. The 10 passengers involved consisted of 7 males and 3 females.

The statement read, “FRSC operatives attached to the Mowe Unit Command in conjunction with TRACE carried out a rescue operation on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway around Christopher University. The crash occurred around 11.30am of Tuesday involving a vehicle with number plate GAS937XA, a Toyota Hiace. A total of 10 persons were involved which comprised seven male adults and three female adults. Y male and 2 females were jnjyred while 1 male and 1 female passed away.

She said “Eight persons including six male adults and two female adults were injured, while two persons, one male adult and one female adult, were recorded dead from the crash. The incident was a lone crash and the suspected cause of the fatal crash was wrongful overtaking on the part of the Toyota driver who rammed into a station vehicle, coupled with excessive speed.”

Mr Anthony Uga who is the Ogun State Sector Commander of FRSC has issued a caution and advice to motorists to be careful of excessive speeding.
