Lagos state government, in a recent press release, stated that it had paid N1.5 billion to 482 retirees for their accrued pension rights for the month of May 2022.

The Commissioner for Establishments, Training, and Pensions, Ajibola Ponnle, was quoted in a statement as saying this during the Lagos State Pension Commission's 94th retirement bond certificate presentation to retirees of the Lagos State Public Service.

The state is committed to paying retiree benefits, and the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olus has been consistent in this regard. According to Ponnle

Governor Sanwo Olu has been stable in the pension industry from May 2019 to the present, with 40.5 billion N in systems, local governments, state universal basic committees, education services committees, and other state government territory agencies. We are paying more than one pensioner.

His intentions is to have a workforce that is efficient, consistent and effective in driving the agenda of a "Greater Lagos." The safety and well-being of our officers is a top priority in achieving this goal.

The commissioner advised retirees to educate themselves on the various options for investing the funds in their retirement accounts.

She urged them to seek competent and trustworthy sources on pension issues.

"Do not be afraid to contact LASPEC or even the Ministry of Establishments, Training, and Pensions if you have any questions or need clarification on the modalities surrounding your retirement benefit matters," she said.
