The Lagos State Government has said it will penalize any school or teacher conducting extra lessons for students after the stipulated hours for school extra lessons.
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun said this during his visit to a school in Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos. Alli-Balogun said the official school extra lessons should be used for reading or extra-curricular activities.
He urged schools to allow students to take part in clubs like the Literary and Debating Society, Boys Scouts, Girls Guide, and so on. He added that no teacher or school should be demanding payment for extra lessons from students because education is free in Lagos State.
