LASTMA officer confesses how much he makes from extorting motorists.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has arrested a man who is impersonating an officer in the agency. This man is a fake officer impersonating the agency and he has confessed how much he has made from extorting motorists.

He has confessed that they make N35,000 daily. This man has been identified has Omotutu Bamidele and he is 55 years.

He was apprehended around Ikoyi in Lagos state.

Reports in a statement on Sunday from LASTMA says that this man is from Ondo State and he confessed that both he and his fellow colleagues were making N35,000 daily by extorting people.

They impersonated the agency by wearing the jackets usually seen with LASTMA officials officials wre extorting money from motorists especially those who own private cars.

The Man said that they approached any car that they saw dropping off someone at an undesignated bus stop and they paid between N15,000 to N20,000. Thos who they caught driving against traffic that is driving on One-way were asked to pay a minimum of N35,000.

Mr Adebayo Taofiq who is the director of the Public affairs department of the agency confirmed by quoting the General Manager that the man caught in thiscrime was apprehended at Olu Holloway Road in Ikoyi by the Surveillance team of the agency.

This team was led by Mr. Ashafa Moyosore who is the Zonal Head.

They made the arrest following complaints made by the public on the agency’s social media and hotline handles.

LASTMA has then urged people to be careful of such fake traffic officers who want to exploit people. They also stated that the agency operates a cashless policy.
