Boris Becker, a three-time Wimbledon champion, has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison for concealing 2.5 million pounds (3.14 million dollars) in assets and loans in order to avoid paying his debts.

On June 21, 2017, the 54-year-old former world number one was declared bankrupt.
He owed creditors nearly 50 million pounds for an unpaid loan on his Mallorca estate of more than three million dollars.

His business account was used to transfer nearly 427,000 euros (450,400 dollars) to others, including his ex-wife Barbara's and estranged wife Sharlely "Lilly" Becker's.

In addition, the father-of-four failed to declare his interest in a one-million-pound property in his hometown of Leimen, Germany, and hid an 825,000-euro bank loan, which was worth 1.1 million pounds with interest.

He also hid 75,000 shares worth 66,000 pounds in a technology company. In 2002, Becker received a two-year suspended sentence in Germany for 1.7 million euros of tax evasion and attempted tax evasion.

Between June 21 and October 3, 2017, he was found guilty of four insolvency-related offenses.
At Southwark Crown Court on Friday, Judge Deborah Taylor handed down a two-and-a-half-year sentence to the six-time Grand Slam champion, of which he will serve half.

"You did not heed the warning and the chance you were given by the suspended sentence, and that is a significant aggravating factor," the judge said, referring to his previous conviction.
Becker was told: "I'm aware of your "fall from grace," as it's been described.

As a result of your bankruptcy, you've lost your job, reputation, and everything you own.
She did, however, say: "You've shown no remorse or acceptance of your guilt, and you've attempted to distance yourself from your crimes and bankruptcy.

"While I accept your humiliation as a necessary part of the process, there has been no humility shown. "
