Lionel Messi scored the equaliser for Inter Miami as the Herons left it late to peg back LA Galaxy to a 1-1 draw in MLS matchday 2 fixture.

The first half ended goalless with LA Galaxy dominating proceedings. In the second half, the hosts finally got the better of Inter Miami with a goal from Dejan Jovelic in the 75th minute.

With 15 minutes left to wrap up the game, Inter Miami fought back through Lionel Messi to score the equaliser. A brilliant teamwork by the visitors saw them catch out the MLS champions after a last-minute offensive.

Lionel Messi spearheaded the offensive before he stole his way through the LA Galaxy defense to collect a pass from Jordi Alba before firing into the net.

After missing out on last season's MLS playoffs, Inter Miami have now gone two matches unbeaten. The Herons opened their 2024 MLS campaign with a 2-0 victory over Real Salt Lake.

Lionel Messi bagged an assist in the game and has now recorded his second goal contribution for the club in their first two MLS matches this season.

Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba joined Inter Miami mid-way through last season. The trio were able to reverse the club's winless run in the MLS. They also won the club their first silverware clinching Leagues Cup trophy.

However, they could not push through qualification for the playoffs. This season, the trio, who have been joined by another former Barcelona teammate and legendary striker Luis Suarez will hope to qualify the Florida-based outfit for playoffs and challenge for MLS title.

With the season's playoff in sight, the club will hope to continue on their unbeaten start to the season when they take on Orlando City in their next MLS fixture on Saturday, March 2, 2024.

They currently sit top of the Eastern Conference with 4 points from two games but have played a game more than other teams who will be in action today.
