Liverpool left it late to secure a hearty victory in the racy-pacy encounter against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Several chances fell to both teams with Mikel Arteta's side seeing the first big chance of the showpiece in the 3rd minute, with Aaron Ramsdale playing a wonderfully floated pass to find Reiss Nelson, with Allison Becker rushing out off his line to save his side.

Subsequently, Nelson rounded Allison but he lost control of the ball, resulting in him forcing his attempt wide.

In the 11th minute, Arsenal also recorded a great opportunity, with Kai Havertz stealing the ball off a poor pass from Joe Gomez.

Havertz served the ball into the middle, with Nelson not being able to connect to it. However, Martin Odegaard smashed a great shot which struck the crossbar, giving Liverpool some respite.


The Reds saw their biggest chance in the 45th minute, with Gabriel Meghalese being slow to close down Alexander Arnold, leaving the Englishman to strike a brilliant effort.

Arnold's shot flew past Ramsdale's gloves before rattling the bar, with Arsenal heaving a sigh of relief.

Both teams went into the break on level pegging, with plenty to do in the second 45 minutes of action.

Liverpool started the second half the brighter of the two teams, with a long ball from Quansah reaching Darwin Nunez, who smashed a troubling effort just wide of the far post.

In the 59th minute, Diogo Jota replaced Cody Gakpo, while Ryan Gravenberch also came on in place of Alexis Mac Allister.

Mikel Arteta's first change in the game occurred in the 62nd minute, with Gabriel Martinelli coming on for Reiss Nelson.

3 minutes later, William Saliba was shown a yellow card for a rash challenge on Diogo Jota.

Harvey Elliot also became the first Liverpool player to be handed a yellow in the game, as he was booked for dissent in the 70th minute.

Jurgen Klopp also gave two youngsters some minutes to accentuate their quality, bringing on Conor Bradley and Bobby Clark for Harvey Elliot and Curtis Jones respectively.

In the 78th minute, Liverpool also got close to taking the lead, with Jota rising above two Liverpool defenders to power a cross at goal.

His header following the cross hit the bar, with Darwin Nunez also getting a follow-up shot, but he sent his efforts wide.

2 minutes later, Jakub Kiwior unfortunately scored an own goal, after Alexander Arnold swung in a characteristic free-kick into the box.

His delivery was inch perfect, with Kiwior looking to defend got Arsenal, but unluckily the ball bounced off his head and into the net at the near post.

Arteta immediately introduced Eddie Nketiah for Jorginho, as he was trying to salvage the game from a losing position.

2 minutes before the expiration of the game, Leandro Trossard and Emile Smith Rowe also got into the fray, replacing Jakub Kiwior and Kai Havertz respectively.

Ryan Gravenberch, Bobby Clark, and Alexander Arnold were also handed yellow cards in the dying embers of the game before Luis Diaz scored the killer goal in the 5th minute of additional time.

Diaz was fed the ball by Nunez and he amazingly fired home an excellent shot into the top corner to seal the victory for Jurgen Klopp's men, ensuring their qualification to the next round.
