Uruguay legend, Luis Suarez, has appreciated the fans of Gremio, following the expiration of his farewell match against Vasco da Gama.
The striker was brilliant in his last match for the club, scoring the only goal in Gremio's 1-0 win over Vasco da Gama.
The screamer led to massive jubilation all across the stadium with standing ovations and chants.
Suarez alongside his family sent out their appreciation to the fans for their love and support.
Following the encounter, Luis Suarez took to his Instagram account to share several pictures, including that of himself and his family on his farewell for the club, and he captioned the picture with:
“My family and I want to thank you all for the love and experience yesterday at the Arena Dio Gremio”.
Luis Suarez's contract is set to expire on December 31, 2023, but he is still uncertain about his next club and he is reportedly now considering retirement.
Amidst this uncertainty, there are speculations that he could be teaming up with Lionel Messi by joining the MLS club, Inter Miami.
The Uruguayan has played for several clubs thus far in his career, including; Liverpool, Groningen Ajax and Atletico Madrid.
Luis Suarez signed for FC Barcelona on July 11, 2014, for a fee of €81.7 million and he spent about 6 years with the Spanish side before leaving in 2020.
The 36-year-old striker had a spectacular time at Barcelona with the support of Messi and other teammates - including Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.
He made 283 appearances for the Catalonia-based club, scoring 195 goals and 113 assists in all competitions.
The 36-year-old also won 13 trophies at Barcelona, including; 1 UEFA Champions, 4 La Liga titles, and 1 FIFA Club World Cup.
Suarez has scored 469 goals and provided 263 assists in 767 club appearances so far in his career.
The Uruguayan striker is also fondly known for his epic save which resulted in him being sent off in the 2010 FIFA World Cup in the quarter-finals against Ghana.
The striker was trying to save Uruguay from conceding and in the process, tried a shocking and unconventional way of using his hand to block a shot from former Ghanaian midfielder Stephen Appiah.
Although a penalty was awarded for the unruly act, retired Ghana International Asamoah Gyan missed the resultant spot kick, and Uruguay ultimately won on penalties.
Suarez successfully halted a then-African record that was to be made by Ghana, of being the first African nation to qualify for the semi-final - a record that has now been set by Morocco at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Following the game, Luis Suarez made an interesting statement in the post-match presser, he said: “The ‘Hand of God’ now belongs to me. Mine is the real ‘Hand Of God’. I made the best save of the tournament.
“Sometimes in training, I play as a goalkeeper so it was worth it. Now we are in the semi-finals although I was very sad because no one likes to be sent off.
“The celebration afterward was impressive, but very quiet because nobody gave us a chance but, with courage, we moved forward.”
Suarez irrespective of his busy career is happily married to Sofia Balbi and they both have 3 kids, a daughter Defina Suarez, and two sons Benjamin Suarez and Lautaro Suarez.
Internationally, Luis Suarez has scored 68 goals and provided 39 assists in 138 appearances for Uruguay.
