French side Olympique Lyonnais may face a daunting challenge if they don’t climb above their current position in the Ligue 1 table.
Lyon, who currently sit bottom in the Ligue 1 (18) might not be able to play their relegation play-off matches at their home turf - the Groupama stadium as that might clash with Taylor Swift's concert coming up in June 2024.
The Swift show, which is slated to be held for two days - Sunday, June 2, 2024, and Monday, June 3, 2024, is completely sold out, and rescheduling the show looks impossible for the organizers.
Swift isn't stopping the grind just yet as she will be performing in Australia, Singapore, and Japan before entering Europe.
The Popstar, whose six of her top 10 albums are currently on the Billboard Hot 200, has scheduled shows in Madrid, Liverpool, Lyon, and London.
This will further cause more headaches for the club as their match will be moved to another stadium.
Although Lyon won their last league title in 2008, they remain a top team in France by virtue of history.
Following their good performance in the league they have been consistent in securing their space in either the UEFA Europa League or the UEFA Champions League.
However, Lyon are currently in their “grace to grass” phase as they are currently struggling to find their feet in the Ligue 1, despite already having three managers handle the team this season.
After 13 matches played this campaign, the club has managed to win 1 match, drawn 4, and lost 8, amassing only 7 points from 13 league matches.
Olympique Lyon were able to secure their first and only win this season against Stade Rennais F.C on November 12, 2023, with the lone goal scored by Jake O’Brien.
The French side had previously recorded an embarrassing 7 defeats and 3 draws, and that win looked like the start of positive fortunes, but unfortunately, it hasn't been so.
Their last two league matches were against LOSC Lille and RC Lens, and they lost both matches - 0-2 and 3-2 respectively.
Olympique Lyon return to action on December 6, 2023, facing Olympique de Marseille, who sit on the Ligue 1 table, with 17 points from 13 matches.
The French side is now under an interim Coach, Pierre Sage, after the dismissal of Fabio Gross in November 2023.
Fabio Gross, who was hired by the club to replace former manager Laurent Blanc, only managed 7 games for the club, before he was sacked.
Fabio Gross was an Italian international player who played for Lyon between 2007 and 2009.
As a defender in the Italian team, he was part of the Italy 2006 World Cup success.
The Lyon board are now considering appointing Pierre Sage, who was recently promoted to be the head of the team's Academy.
The French side which currently holds the record 7 Ligue 1 titles consecutively, might fall back to Ligue 2 for the first time since the 1980s.
