A Man and his girlfriend have sold their one month old baby to get money for support drug addiction

It was the Edo State Taskforce Against Human Trafficking who are the arrest of this couple.

The man has been identified as Anthony Igbinogun, and he is 48 years old. His girlfriend has been identified as Joy Umukoro, who is 28 years of age.

The couple sold their baby to support their drug addiction and were arrested alongside their 26 year old friend who is Precious James.

This precious was the one who facilitated the sales or the baby. She had connected the couple to the baby’s buyer who is located in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Abigail Ihonre who is the Head of the Investigation Unit of the Edo State Taskforce Against Human Trafficking briefed journalist about the situation recently in Benin City

She revealed that they sold the baby for a sum of N1.7 million.

She also revealed that investigation into finding the whereabouts of the baby is still ongoing.
They will also arrest the person who bought the child from the couple.

She revealed that from investigation, they found out that Joy, who is the mother, birthed the baby in April 2023. She then planned with her boyfriend to sell the baby.

The woman has confessed to these crimes. They said they couldn't take care of the baby and resorted to this. Life had become difficult for them after the birth of their baby so she approached her friend who then gave them this idea as a solution and linked them up with a buyer.

She went ahead to reveal the punishment for trafficking which is about seven years in prison.

She urged others who can't afford to take care of their children to take them to the Edo State Taskforce Against Human Trafficking instead of selling them.
