Man arrested for killing his father over debt of N70,000

A man has been arrested in Ogun state for killing his father over a debt of N70,000. It was the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps which is known simply as So-Safe corps who arrested this man.

The so-safe corps revealed that they arrested a 38 year old man whose name is Matthew Ifeanyi. He had allegedly murdered his father who has been identified as Anthony Nnadike. He attacked his father with a machete and eventually killed him.

This incident occurred ured around Olorunda area, Eruobodo Ntabo, located in Ijoko in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area. The suspect butchered his father with a machete because of a debt of N70,000.

He had reportedly asked his father to produce the N70,000 which he had kept with him since last year, July 2022. When the father didn't produce this money, he attacked him and killed him.

It was the office of So Safe State Commander, Soji Ganzallo who released a statement about this incident on Wednesday. The statement had been signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, who is Moruf Yusuf.

The statement read “On Tuesday, August 29, 2023, information got to Superintendent Alabi Gafar, the Divisional Officer of the Corps at Alade/Atago/Ntabo Divisional Command that at 11, Ibikunle Street, Diamond Estate, along Olorunda Area, Eruobodo Ntabo, Ijoko in Ado Odo/Ota Local Government Area, that a middle-aged man was said to have been attacking his biological father with cutlass,”

It was the Divisional Command patrol team who had been given directives to resched the victim and arrest the suspects. When they arrived at the scene, the victim (father) had been rushed to the hospital because of his injuries.

Later on, he was confirmed dead by the doctors in the hospital. Investigation was carried out and this man eventually confessed to attacking and killing his father because he was unable to refund the N70,000 he had given him.

The suspect also said that he was forced to commit this act after he had resigned from his previous job to start a business which he needed that N70,000 for. The corps revealed that they have transferred the suspect to the Sango Divisional Headquarters of the state police command for further investigation and prosecution.
