Man dies while dredging well in Kwara state


A middle aged man died recently while he was dredging a well in Kwara state. This man has been identified as Abdulqadir Murtala and he is 43 years old. He died tragically while dredging a well recently. He fell into the well around Egbejila area in Ilorin, Ilorin West Local Government Area in Kwara State. This occured yesterday, Tuesday, September 5, 2023.

His corpse was discovered recently inside the well. It was the men of the Kwara State Fire Service who recovered the body of this man. The victim, Murtala is a well digger who had been working on a well behind Global Primary and Secondary School, which is in the Bayi Community in this area.

He was working on the well when he fell inside and died. The Kwara Fire Service revealed more information about the incident. The spokesman for the fire service, Hassan Adekunle sharedfirtger details in a statement which was released recently.

He revealed that they got a phone call yesterday from a resident in the area that a man had fallen into the well and died. They then went to the scene and were able to recover the body from the well. The victim had been dredging the well when his foot slipped and he fell inside.

In his words “The incident occurred this (Tuesday) morning around 10.30am and the Brigade was summoned through a telephone call by one Mr David, a resident of the area. However, firemen were able to recover the dead body from the well and later handed it over to one Mr Mohammed Abdulwasiu, a family member of the deceased. According to the report, the victim went to re-dredge a well and during the process of dredging, one of his legs slipped off the ground and he eventually tumbled into the well.”

This incident is indeed a sad one for the family of the deceased. The spokesperson also revealed that the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service who is Falade Olumuyiwa, also shared his sadness over this sad incident. He then urged people to take caution and be better careful in all their activities.
