Manchester City are in the race to sign Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha, who is also being targeted by Bayern Munich and Liverpool.

The 28-year-old Fulham star was almost signed by Bayern Munich in the summer, but the deal did not happen.

However, the Bundesliga champions are still keen on signing him according to The Sun.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have no plans to bolster their midfield options with Palhinha's addition in January, despite being approached by the player’s agent.

The cost to transfer him from Craven Cottage is higher than what the Merseyside club are willing to pay for any player during the transfer window according to TEAMTalk.

This will prevent several key players from joining the club next month, as Klopp and his team are not willing to engage in bidding wars and want to avoid a situation like the Moises Caicedo saga with Chelsea last summer.

Meanwhile, report has it that Manchester City are prepared to offer £50 million ($63m) for the Portuguese international, as they consider him a suitable replacement for Kalvin Phillips, who is likely to exit Etihad Stadium.

If Guardiola manages to secure a successful bid for Joao Palhinha in January, then Kalvin Phillips could be on his way out.

It's also reported that Juventus have shown interest in taking Philip on loan for the rest of the season.

And despite Philip's determination to stay and fight for his place at the Etihad, he understands that he needs more playing time to secure his spot on the England team for next year's Euros necessitating his exit.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich are interested in signing Phillips too, and if they manage to bring the English international to Germany, it will clear City's way to sign Joao Palhinha

Palhinha made the switch to Fulham from Sporting Lisbon in a £20 million deal last year.

Since then, the Portugal international has scored six goals and provided one assist in 56 appearances for the club.

This season, the 28-year-old has already added two goals and one assist in 16 appearances across all competitions, further solidifying his impact on the team.

Currently, Manchester City are facing difficulties as they have only won one of their last six Premier League games.

Yesterday, December 16, they let slip a two-goal lead at home against Crystal Palace, resulting in them dropping crucial points.

As it stands, if Liverpool defeats Manchester United today, December 18, they will increase their lead over Manchester City to six points.

What's likely to happen?

Manchester City have maintained their interest in Fluminense star Andre as a backup option in case they are unable to secure a deal for Palhinha.

The highly-touted Brazilian young talent is expected to come with a price tag of £30m ($38m) for the Premier League club.
