Manchester City will start their FA Cup campaign on Sunday afternoon against Huddersfield Town as they look to defend their trophy.
The Cityzens once again, as usual, are set to refuse to have the Emirates FA Cup logo crested on their jersey sleeves because the Emirates are a major rival with Etihad Airways, one of Manchester City's sponsors.
Since 2015, Manchester City have been excluded from the teams to have the “red-rectangular” patch which would consist of the Emirates branding and the competition logo.
Manchester City were exempted when Emirates became the FA Cup's sponsor in 2015 because City's partners - Etihad and The Emirates are direct rivals with Etihad Airways based in Abu Dhabi and Emirates in Dubai.
As a matter of fact, in 2019, the Sky Blues wore a special version of their sponsor logo, which displayed the message “Choose Etihad” aiming a subtle jab at their rivals, Emirates.
Ever since, City have won the FA Cup twice, in the 2018/19 season, defeating Watford 6-0, winning the domestic treble, and also in the 2022/23 season- defeating Man United by 3-1.
However, the city can't evade the Emirates branding entirely as the Emirates FA Cup trophy has the Emirates ribbon attached to it and the medal has the Emirates logo crested on it.
Also, In Pep Guardiola's pre-match press conference room, the whole place was lit in colors of the “Emirates” and there were also Emirates banners around.
Manchester City will be without midfielder Rodrigo Hernández in their FA Cup game against Huddersfield Town following the death of his grandmother during the week.
