Manchester City's midfielder Rodri has broken a 16-year-old record following his team's 3-1 victory over Manchester United on Sunday, March 3.

Marcus Rashford scored for United with a spectacular 25-yard strike in the first half, assisted by Bruno Fernandes.

However, Phil Foden scored two goals in the second half and Erling Haaland added a third, leading City to a crucial derby victory and bringing them within a point of Premier League leaders, Liverpool.

As a result of this victory, England star Rodri has not lost a club game since Manchester City's 1-0 defeat to Tottenham in February 2023.

Recall that after Rodri was sent off against Nottingham Forest in September, City lost all three of the domestic games that he missed. But when the 27-year-old Spaniard is on the pitch, it's a different story.

Consequently, Rodri has represented City on 59 occasions without experiencing defeat, making it the longest 'invincible' streak of any Premier League player.

He has now surpassed former Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho, who went 58 games without defeat between November 2006 and February 2008.

Meanwhile, despite Rodri's record-breaking feat, the praise rightly went to team-mate Phil Foden as he stole the spotlight in the Manchester derby.

In the 55th minute, Foden made an impressive move, dodging Victor Lindelof and scoring a goal to tie the score 1-1.

He continued to shine, scoring his second goal in the 80th minute off a brilliant pass from Alvarez, bringing the score to 2-1.

As a result, Gary Neville, a United legend, commended the 23-year-old England star for his outstanding performance against City's old rival.

He said: "Sometimes derby matches can be emotional passionate affairs, especially for local players who have come through the academy and it means a lot to them.

"He's as cool as ice, Phil Foden. He's such a special talent. He's here to stay. He's such a wonderful player."
