Luke Shaw pulled up with an apparent injury in the closing stages of the first half of the match between Manchester United and Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.

Shaw, who struggled with a lengthy injury layoff early this season before recently returning to the lineup, awoke another injury fears among Man United fans as he had to be subbed off in the match against Luton Town before the break.

It was the second time he was subbed off in the first half by Erik ten Hag after the Dutch took a similar precautionary measure in United's game against Aston Villa.

While Shaw was subbed off against Aston Villa to reduce his minutes and allow him regain his full fitness after his lengthy layoff, he apparently picked up a fresh injury in the game against Luton warranting the decision to remove him from the game.

Walking off the field after being subbed off, the England star did not appear to be in any sort of discomfort. He was not aided by the medical officials and was gallantly making his way way towards the tunnel to return to the away dressing room without any sign of a limp or anything of that nature.

United did not confirm the nature of his injury during the week, though they conceded it was nothing overly serious.

Manager Erik ten Hag, speaking to the media at Carrington on Thursday, admitted the defender was a doubt, but that he was still in with a chance of featuring. United gave him as long as possible to prove his worth and he passed a pre-match fitness test.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Ten Hag said: "Luke is doubtful for the weekend but we are positive he can make it. He came out as a precaution, it was the right direction. We work until Sunday."

United came flying out of the traps, racing into a two-goal lead inside just seven minutes courtesy of a Rasmus Hojlund double.

However, Luton got themselves back into the contest just seven minutes after the Dane's second, getting on the scoresheet through Carlton Morris. United led 2-1 at the time of Shaw's exit, and subsequently headed into the break with the lead.

The second half ended barren as United survived Luton Town pressure to secure victory and keep their top four hopes alive.
