Manchester United injury crisis has deepened with a recent grim update on Tyrell Malacia injury.
The Dutch wingback has been among the list of Man United players who are on a long injury layoff.
Tyrell Malacia picked up a knee injury since last season. According to reports, United decided to manage the injury with painkillers. After a thorough examination, he had to undergo surgery as the injury worsened with time.
Malacia last tasted action for Manchester United on the last day of the Premier League last season against Fulham.
Since then, he has been sidelined. Before the club opted for a surgical solution to the knee injury, Malacia made an appearance on Man United bench in FA Cup final against Manchester City. And that was the last time he made the club's matchday squad.
The former Feyenoord wingback underwent a successful surgical operation and is on rehabilitation.
Malacia was previously expected to return this year but a new report on his injury situation, as shared by Fabrizio Romano, has revealed his return is now delayed till January 2024 to ensure his full recovery.
He reportedly suffer a setback while on rehabilitation and will need a fresh surgery. Nevertheless, he is not expected to tarry on the sidelines for more than a month again.
The report said;
“Man United defender Tyrell Malacia suffered a setback during rehabilitation, which required further surgery.
“He’s on course to return to action early next year, as he recovers from a knee injury.
Before injury, Malacia made 39 appearances for Man United in all competitions with 14 Premier League starts. He deputized for Man United and English left-back Luke Shaw.
When Luke joined United's injury list, the club dart into transfer market to sign Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham on a short-term loan deal.
Luke Shaw is back to United squad after his injury but Lisandro Martinez and is still on the sidelines.
Meanwhile, the club will hope to have Tyrell Malacia return to full fitness on the slated date with the club's medical officials tasked to monitor the recovery well and not take chances.
